Your Attention Is Being Stolen

And You're Paying 💸For It (Literally)

"I'll watch one episode before I sleep"

"One more reel before I log out of Instagram"

"I can sleep 30 minutes late. This show is too good!"

Sound familiar?

A lot of distractions around us with one common goal - make us spend more time (so that they make more money).

Back in the pandemic, when we spent time at home, we spent MORE hours on our screens (me included).

I didn't like where this was going, because, at first I said "it's a pandemic, I need an outlet to relax". Months later this became normal and staring at my screen wasn't a compromise I was willing to make.

Coincidentally, I saw the documentary 'The Social Dilemma' and it triggered a lot of questions in me. I went down this rabbit hole of discovering who ARE these people who've decided to raise awareness on our social media addictions?

Turns out there are a LOT. They do it through books, videos, podcasts etc. I have a lot of ground to cover haha.

In doing so, I recently came across a book called 'Stolen Focus' by Johan Hari and it reignited this interest of mine - understanding why we behave the way we do with our phones.

I learned a few things before I read the book - based on research, my own experiences and conversations but I intend to spread this awareness.

The aim is to do this by writing and it goes without saying that the next editions will be on these lines.
