Why You Never Have Enough Time ⌚

Despite having 24 hours every day

Why You Never Have Enough Time ⌚

Hi friend

I've been pondering quite a bit on our relationship with time. Off late, I've wondered how we all have the same 24 hours but do different things.

Somedays we're doing more, other days less. There's a strong urge to do everything, but in the end, it feels like we fall short (at least I do). In order to catch-up, I go all out and then, to recover, I slow down. Can relate?

I spent some time thinking, writing and reading about it and here's my take:

1. Productivity is Overrated

YouTube and Instagram are full of 'hacks' to be more productive. Not being productive is seen as a crime. Watching Netflix or going out makes you feel guilty because you could have been doing something better.

That's certainly not true. If anything, it's toxic. Leisure is essential.

2. Leisure is Essential

I’ve spent days where I’ve logged every minute of my day. I’ve spent days doing things on an impulse. Both induce anxiety and neither feels great. The best I’ve felt is when I got work done - i.e. things that mattered on that day, at that point in time and also did things I love.

3. Striking A Balance

Benjamin Franklin's daily routine shows how he balanced his day with work and 'diversion'.

Leisure isn’t necessarily watching Netflix and stuffing Doritos down your face. It can be going for a walk or gardening, or cooking a meal. What puts you in a state of flow - like a boxer with his punching bag - it feels great but might seem laborious to others.

At the end of the day, you do you - work, indulge in things you love and have fun - they’re all valuable in their own ways. The mindful relationship with time is what helps us maintain the right balance in our lives.

(I'm writing a book)

Speaking of leisure that might seem laborious - I’ve begun working on a small e-book.

The aim of the book is to help those who want to start something of their own - be a creative gig, their own business, improve their overall routines etc.

You’ll receive updates in future editions, and eventually, access to the book itself.

Hope you have a good week

Regards xx
